Final I-News Full Show

The final I-News full show is up on byuicomm.net.

And by final I mean final. It's not only the last full show of the semester but it will be the last full I-News show produced. For now at least. After some discussion with John Thompson the faculty head of i-Comm it's been decided that we are not going to be doing to full length shows next semester. We'll continue producing the two minute I-News updates, and the reporter will continue to create news packages but most of those packages will just be uploaded to the i-Comm website, rather than getting integrated into a full I-News show.

I'm getting a "promotion" as well. I'll be the one of the i-Comm web content managers next semester. Basically I'll be approving all the videos that are added to the website, as well as writing the polls that appear on the front page of the i-Comm website, and updating the I-News social media. It's more of a promotion of title than anything else. But it should be cool. I'll still be helping out the I-News people and may take on a story or two but I'll focused more on our web presence.

I-News full show.

I have only one I-News full show left this semester. It'll be out next week. As I was thinking of this I realized I never posted a link to the last I-News show I produced. As usual it can be found on byuicomm.net.

I think it's the best show we've done yet, there are a lot of good stories there I think. Aaron was out sick on the day that we shot so Monica is anchoring the show all by herself.

Pumpkins and Charity

I'm currently working on my latest I-News show, and I have a bit of time while I wait for it to render so I thought I'd go ahead and do a post to get caught up here a bit.

First my latest I-News package (which will also be in the full show.) It's about the Pumpkin Bowl. Basically for a class students put together a night of bowling, but with a twist. Instead of regular bowling balls pumpkins were used to knock down soda bottle pins.

Next we have a VOSOT that was cut from the last I-News full show (11-4-2010). I thought it was a good story, but keeping meant the show would be longer than we needed so it was cut. I thought it would be good to still run it thought so I sectioned it off and I've posted it.

I'll have another post as soon as the next I-News full show is up on the iComm website.

I-New 11-4-2010

The newest I-News full show is now up at byuicomm.net.

I think its the best show that has been done so far this semester. We have some new graphics that were put together for the show and they look really good. But more importantly the stories are pretty good.

The top story of the fish in the Geology Museum aquarium dying was given to me as a tip from a friend. Cyndi Hutch covered it and did an awesome job. There's also some good coverage of the Halloween celebrations around Rexburg.

We shot in the studio for the first time this semester. Shooting in the studio actually made things g much faster. It was nice.

Pre-schoolers tour The Crossroads, and third full show

[Update] 10-25-2010

I've removed my story on the pre-schoolers from YouTube and from the full show that was posted. I received an e-mail today from John Thompson the professor in charge of i-Comm Student Media (and therefore I-News) saying that he had received a complaint from a parent concerning their child being shown in the story, and asking for its removal. He removed the full show, my video, and the I-News update show that featured the story. I have removed the video from YouTube in order to respect that parents wishes. I have placed another story into the full show in my stories place.

We were under the impression that we were allowed to film the children when we shot the story. The preschool teachers said it was fine for most of the kids and pointed out some kids to us that they knew their parents wouldn't want their children shown. Since the teachers are students they were apparently unaware that we were not supposed to do this.

I was quite happy with what I put together when I produced the story and I don't really understand why the parents would want it removed (I don't have kids, but if I did, I think that I would not mind them appearing in a news story like the one I made) but I am going to comply with their wishes.

[Original Post]
Above is my latest package for I-News. It's about the "R" Children pre-school run on the BYU -- Idaho campus and a field trip they recently took to the crossroads. There's lots of footage of cute kids making and eating pizza.

Also my third full show is now up on byuicomm.net. This is the strongest show I've produced yet. My reporters are getting better as we go along and that's good to see. There were overall fewer hiccups in getting this show ready for to go up, and I think the end result is pretty good.

Second Full Show

The Second Full Show I produced this semester is now up on the BYU i-Comm website. I think that its a much smoother show than the last. There are still some little details that are not quite what I would hope, but over all I think this a stronger package than the last.

I had to put a shortened version of my profile on Keisha from the last post in because one of my reporters was not able to deliver a package after she forgot her camera in Salt Lake. We're still working on getting a style guide for the show solidified as well. But I think things are much improved and I'm pretty happy with the end result.

Keisha Profile

This is a profile I did a couple of semesters ago. I never got it online so I figured I ought to. So here it is.
